Editing the Commercial

Today in class we started editing our commercials. Instead of using studios on the school laptop we used iMovie on a Mac. We imported the footage we filmed on to the computer. We selected the tracks, track one for film, track 2 for audio. As well as titles above the tracks. The footage in total was about 37 seconds. After cutting, it got down to about 25 seconds. Most of the clips were six seconds each and didn't have much room for cuts. Since we filmed on average four takes per clip. We were not worried about having the right amount of clips.
For editing, we not only cut clips. We added transitions between scenes. Some transitions are fading, cross blur, and leaving room for jump cuts. We used jumpcuts, when our over the shoulder shots were going back and forth.  This created the same effect of two people talking in a casual setting. The transitions were added, following the whole group approving them. The transitions flow between scenes, causing it to still make sense. Something we also added was text above the film. I added the text saying "America runs on Dunkin."Along with that an ending credit of all of the student actors was included.
Not only was text and transitions added, but so was sound. In the end, we added a basic iMovie symbol clashing sound. When this sound was added it showed that I can edit using all three tracks at the same time. There is only one sound effect because Dunkin doesnt have a set "song." Some of the reasons we used a Mac with iMovie is due to the school computers. At first, the computer would accept the new folder we created with our footage. Having messages pop up that the files were too big. This was only a minor issue due to that we knew other resources were available. With minor setbacks, the process was simple and not too bad. The editing was fun and enjoyable.
